OSI Group, one of the largest international foodservice and retail food brands, concentrates on improving quality and expanding operations. In 2016 two important acquisitions contributed to growth.
The Group purchased a Chicago, Illinois processing plant from Tyson Foods, Incorporated and obtained a controlling stake in the Dutch-based Baho Food Company.
Tyson shut down its Ashland Avenue meat processing facility on June 2, 2016. Many of the 250 employees, down from 480 positions, obtained employment with OSI. It was a win-win for OSI, the 200,000 square foot plant and storage warehouse is close to other OSI Chicago operations. The Group maintains their OSI West Chicago on Industrial Drive and the over 130,000 square foot OSI Chicago – Racine. The North American Regional Office, Global Headquarters and Research and Development (R&D) Center are managed from Aurora, Illinois, about an hour away.
OSI Industries and a joint venture partner obtained stake in Baho Food in August, 2016. The company manufactures convenience food, deli meats, and snacks for the food service and retail segment. Baho Foods folded into OSI Europe and strengthened overall presence in that particular market. The portfolio of products and brands positively effects OSI’s processing structure and addresses the always evolving needs of customers.
The purchase includes five subsidiaries with processing plants in both Germany and the Netherlands. These five companies have customers in 18 European countries.
Conversely, Baho benefits from the leverage and experience of OSI to accelerate growth strategies, and successfully accomplishment mutual goals. With an eye to better positioning, OSI retained the services of Baho’s managing director and the entire management team.
Currently, OSI Group is number 58 on Forbes Magazine’s list of America’s Largest Private Companies. The Group’s 2016/17 Global Sustainability Report details its worldwide efforts to address social responsibility, environmental issues, food quality and safety, and responsible animal welfare standards.
The Report reinforces the company’s commitment to profit by conducting business in a responsible, sustainable manner. Plans are in place for a double digit reduction in energy and water intensity and zero-waste-to-landfill status throughout all operations by 2020.
